Audi has decided to integrate Apple Music into its infotainment system for its 2022 model vehicles. The integration will allow its car owners to reduce reliance on smartphone mirroring use like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Nearly all car manufacturers have utilized smartphone mirroring as consumers have become more dependent on smartphones to stream music and navigate their destinations. However, consumers have experienced several reoccurring problems while using smartphone mirroring, such as problems with software updates, Bluetooth connectivity issues, and overall lousy device integration. Carmakers have responded to the minor inconvenience by directly offering music service integration like Apple Music and Spotify through their infotainment system. Audi has been the latest to provide similar services.
On May 19th, 2022, Audi announced that it will offer Apple Music integration directly through its MMI infotainment system. According to the automaker, the integration will be incorporated with no extra cost to a large sum of the 2022 model Audi vehicles. In Europe, North America, and Japan, Audi owners will receive software updates to their vehicles via over-the-air (OTA).
Per the carmaker, the user will be able to log into their Apple music library directly through the MMI. The data will be delivered through the car's modem and subjected to the data packages purchased by the owner. If owners do not own a data subscription for their vehicle, they will still be able to utilize CarPlay and Android Auto.
